Hilton Head Island, while only being 12 miles long and 5 miles wide, has everything a vacationer could ever need. The Island offers gorgeous beaches, reknowned golf courses, fabulous restaurants, and a variety of shopping for everyone. While there is much to do on the Island, there are also wonderful places to stay; some of the best rental properties in the country stand on Hilton Head Island.
Whether you are looking for an activity-filled vacation
or one where you can just lay on the beach, Hilton Head has it all.
Between dolphin cruises with
Shannon Tanner, miniature golf, or the
Island
Playground, kids will always find something to
do.
Our family has been visiting Hilton Head Island for
years and it has become a trip that we look forward to every
summer. We hope you get down to visit and see all the Island
has to offer!
Palmetto Dunes Plantation is
located mid-island and is about 2,000 acres and has a three mile
stretch of beach with an 11 mile lagoon system that allows you to
enjoy the natural wildlife through fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.
There are
three
championship golf courses and the Palmetto Dunes
Tennis Center for those looking to stay active on
vacation. Other activities in the Palmetto Dunes Plantation
includes water skiing, surf lessons, and paddle
boarding.
Since Palmetto Dunes is located directly across from Shelter Cove, it allows for easy access to several shops and restaurants such as Little Venice, a small Italian restaurant which has a great view of the marina and wonderful atmosphere. The Kingfisher is also located along the Shelter Cove Harbour and offers diverse seafood entrees as well as All -You-Can-Eat pasta. From mid June through mid August, Shelter Cove hosts HarbourFest which has live entertainment seven days a week plus arts and crafts at an array of vendors. There is also a free, on-call shuttle bus service called the Palmetto Dunes Buggy that runs inside Palmetto Dunes and Shelter Cove Harbour!
Recommended Restaurants
As our family has returned to Hilton Head Island over the past several years, we have developed a list of our favorite restaurants to visit while there. One of our favorites, Truffles, offers a huge menu and we have yet to find a meal we did not enjoy.
We have also enjoyed Frankie Bones, which was built in 2004, and found the menu to be quite diverse and the atmosphere is fun. Based on the early 60's era, the decor also makes it an interesting restaurant on the Island.
